How to Build an Acne Diet
Friday, November 6th, 2009Many people could benefit from an acne diet. Most importantly, who hasn’t heard that eating chocolate gives you zits? Almost all of us have. So it doesn’t seem so crazy that by watching what you eat could prevent a break out.
Nevertheless, a good acne diet is not easy to develop. This type of diet is highly personal since is is based on each individual’s response to foods. There are guidelines, but your progress will largely be trial and error. Monitor your skin closely. Write down all changes. Taking pictures with your digital camera is a good way to keep a journal. So if and when your skin clears up, stay on the diet you were on at the time.
The following guidelines can help get you started on an acne diet:
* Up your intake of protein - Many dermatologists are under the belief that protein is connected with clearer skin. This is because protein contains an enzyme that limits the production of oil. Oily skin has always been susceptible to breakouts.
* Keep away from carbohydrates - Do not take all carbs out of your diet. However you should keep them around 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates have compounds in them that can stimulate oil production. This is why junk food has a reputation for causing acne. Actually it is just that junk food is high in carbs.
* Consume green tea - If at all possible try to drink the real stuff. The kind of green tea that you brew is the best kind. You really may not like the real green tea so the natural green tea drinks will work Green tea holds back androgen production. Androgen is a hormone that will cause your skin to breakout.
* Restrict your salt intake - Salt most always contains iodine. Which is why table salt is sometimes called “iodized salt.” Of course for some people with acne, iodine can cause big breakouts.
You must watch your diet and what you put on your face. You should know what ingredients are in your beauty products if you have acne. Natural and organic skin care lines are the best acne prone skin. These are least likely to cause a breakout. If you wear makeup, then consider investing in mineral makeup. Many dermatologists today believe that mineral makeup can really reduce breakouts and increase the results of your acne diet.
