Retail Point Of Sale Displays

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Designing effective and eye-catching point of sale displays not only requires effective communication skills, but it also calls for a strong grasp of architectural concepts as well as an advanced understanding of materials and their respective capabilities and capacities. Broken down into a multiple step approach - the first thing to be cognizant of is the target audience you are designing your point of sale display to speak to. This, of course, is directly related to the type of product or service you are creating your point of sale display for. This should be the initial and most basic concept to consider when you are designing your graphics and choosing your message. Take into consideration what the interests are of your target audience and design your graphics to appeal to them.

The second and perhaps most important aspect of designing point of sale displays is the architectural design of your display with careful consideration for the materials you are using and the limitations or capabilities of each and every material you are using to create your point of sale displays. Be cognizant of the thickness of the materials you are using with respect to what you are hoping to achieve. Ask yourself if you are looking to create something free-standing or fixed to a window or other open space. You need to use the most appropriate materials available, for example, if the POS display is to be freestanding you will need to use a very strong card.. Often times, it is best to communicate with the person you are creating the display for and find out what the limitations are in terms of space and environment of the space your display will be set up at. Retail displays and point of sale displays can really wow your clients if you fully understand the brief.!
